Headshot vs Promotional Portrait

On social media we are bombarded by visual noise everyday, most of which flies by without a second glance. In turn, we have become a society of skimmers. Most of us whisk through tens of thousands of images per week. This poses a bit of a problem if you are trying to gain attention for your business.

What makes you stop and look at an image?

Maybe something unexpected, or something that tells a bit of a story. A bright color, striking black and white or interesting composition. It doesn't have to be extreme. It just has to be a bit out of the norm.

If you're attempting to promote yourself or your business, you'll want images that will cut through the noise. Ideally they should have something to say about your personallity as well as convey something about your business.

A standard headshot has it's place but it should be thought of as more informational

than promotional. In most cases, it will do little to help you stand out from the crowd.

So the next time you're thinking of updating your images, you may want to kick it up a notch. Give your audience a little something extra to connect to. At the very least, you'll make the world a more interesting place. ___
